How to care for your flowers
Caring for cut flowers involves a few simple steps to maximize their freshness and lifespan:
- Fresh Cut: As soon as you get the flowers, cut about an inch off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently.
- Water: Use clean, cold water in a clean vase. Some flowers benefit from flower food or a teaspoon of sugar added to the water.
- Remove Leaves: Strip off any leaves that would be submerged in water, as they can rot and create bacteria.
- Temperature: Keep the flowers in a cool location, away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources like radiators.
- Change Water: Replace the water every 2-3 days and recut the stems to keep the flowers fresh.
- Avoid Fruit: Keep flowers away from fruit, as the ethylene gas emitted by ripening fruit can shorten flower life.
By following these steps, you can enjoy the beauty of your cut flowers for a longer period.
